Experience Matters

Seasoned pros talk about their careers.

In this space, we usually focus on stylists who are at the early stage of their careers with topics such as questions to ask before you take a job, how to build your book, and how to find your first job as a stylist.

Today, we thought we would switch gears and highlight a few experienced stylists and their career paths. Hearing the details of someone else’s professional journey can always help guide you on your own path.

Step by Step

Dayna C. has been a Fantastic Sams stylist for 10 years now. But, she wasn’t sure what path her career would take when she started as a receptionist.

“My first job was at a Fantastic Sams as a receptionist. My mom just happened to be getting her hair cut and the manager at the time said they could really use a receptionist. It wasn’t even a week later, and I was hired! Over the course of time, I began to fall in love with the industry. My boss and co-workers at the time could see the interest I had. They really pushed me to go to beauty school and acquire my cosmetology license. 10 years later, I’m still loving it! I’m so thankful for everything this industry has taught me and how it has helped me grow so much as a person!”

Follow Your Passion

Following high school, Danielle T. didn’t know what was next for her, but she knew she wanted to incorporate her artistic nature into her career. After speaking to some students at a beauty school, she decided that might be the right path for her, too.

“I’ve been a stylist for about 16 years now and have been at my current salon for 10 of those years. Growing with my clientele and Fantastic Sams was the greatest choice for me. My staff inspires me every day with their talent, ideas, and kindness. I’m very thankful to be a part of a team like mine.”

Confidence Boost

Nikki D. became a stylist because she wanted to help other people. She believed as a stylist she could help her clients gain confidence and feel good in their own skin. What surprised her was how much her career has helped her, too.

“I didn’t know how becoming a stylist would better myself in so many different ways, like my own confidence, building relationships, communicating with others, growing into other roles, and of course, the extensiveness of how far the creativity really goes. There are always new trends and new techniques to keep up on that it is nearly impossible to “get bored” with this profession! At Fantastic Sams we get to do it ALL!  No one ever said it was going to be easy, and if it’s your passion, it shouldn’t be! But it should be rewarding and you get instant gratification on a daily basis!”

Building Relationships

Sara Z. was 31 when she decided to go to cosmetology school. She says changing her career path was a new chapter in her life when she was looking for a big change. She believes stylists play an important role in today’s world by bringing smiles, laughter, and positive change to their guests. The relationships she has with her guests are a high point of her career.

“The relationships that I have built with my loyal guests over the nine years I have been at my Chaska Fantastic Sams salon are so incredibly special. They have become like family. I can honestly say I love coming to work every day…now how many people today can say that and really mean it? I am grateful, thankful, and blessed to be a Fantastic Sams stylist and manager!”

Regardless of where you are in your career, joining the Fantastic Sams family sounds like it’s always a good move. To find out more about joining our experienced group of stylists in the Minneapolis area, check out our job listings and apply online today.
