Self-confidence is a game changer.
Defined as a feeling of trust in one’s abilities, qualities, and judgment, self-confidence often radiates outward so others feel more confident simply by being around someone who possesses it.
For stylists, self-confidence makes a real difference in careers. Clients are drawn to confident stylists who then continue to grow and succeed. However, finding confidence in yourself and your abilities doesn’t simply happen, you have to work to achieve it.
BeautyCast Network, a lead generation opportunity network that connects beauty industry students with potential employers, recently featured a blog article highlighting ways for stylists to build self-confidence. Written by one of Fantastic Sam’s own stylists, the article has tips for stylists who second guess their decisions or are a bit anxious with certain guests.
Here is a quick look at her self-confidence tips.
1. Keep Learning In any professional environment, education is the foundation of self-confidence.
The beauty industry is always evolving and there is always something to learn.
2. Focus on Communication.
A great opportunity to build your self-confidence – and your client’s –by making sure each person in your chair loves their new look. An effective guest consultation is a vital first step.

3. Get Plenty of Practice.
While everyone knows practice makes perfect, that’s only part of the story. You not only need to practice techniques, but you also need to practice using different tools and various products.
4. Get SMART About Goals.
Set goals using the SMART system (Specific, Measurable, Achievable, Realistic, and Time-Based).
5. Keep Track of Progress.
Find a way that works for you to record and track your progress so you can look back and see the progress you’ve made.
